The Kingdom of Feštini
The Kingdom of Feštini is a cave located in the heart of Istria near Žminj. It was often devastated during its history. Its magnificent interior is open for visits.
The cave called The Kingdom of Feštini is located in the heart of Istria, near the village Feštini not far from Žminj. It was named after the anecdote according to which all the children from the neighbouring villages would gather and go to play in the cave. When asked by adults where they were, children would answer: in the kingdom. This is how the Kingdom of Feštini came to be. It was discovered in the 1930s during the vineyard planting when a pick fell into the soil and created the hole which was impossible to bury. Following the WW2, the cave was filled in, and rediscovered in the 1980s. It was rather devastated during its history by unconscientious visitors breaking and taking cave ornaments. To prevent that from repeating, safe trails have been developed inside the cave. The cave is filled with magnificent drip water including easily recognizable shapes of the Magician's Hat, the Tower of Babel, and the enormous Bat's Wings unusually covered by a grape vine root supplied with water from the cave's pit.
